Parenting Wisely Parenting Wisely is a nationally implemented workshop designed for parents of pre-teens and teenagers. It consists of three 90-minute sessions and has been proven to increase parent-child communication, improve conflict management within families, and increase family bonding. Some of the issues addressed by the program include:
Parenting Wisely is offered locally throughout the year by Downingtown Area Communities That Care. The workshop is free of charge, but advance registration is required, as space is limited to 20 participants. Jill Crawford will be facilitating classes on the following dates and locations:

Summer 2007Summer Social Skills Group Summer is a great time to take a deep breath, relax, and focus on some of those stubborn issues that have bothered you all year long, but you just didn't have the time to address them! Without the demands of school, children and teenagers can devote time to working on any one or several of the following:
Groups are excellent opportunities for individuals to join with their peers over common issues. In a supportive and structured setting, members can share their challenges, hear feedback, receive education, and develop alternative perspectives. Group members will identify personal goals and strategies for achieving them. They will learn about themselves and what motivates them, discovering how to turn negative patterns into healthy habits.
Winter/Spring 2007School and Social Anxiety in School-Aged Children
Uwchlan Hills Elementary School This seminar will help parents identify the signs of school and social anxiety, and to learn valuable coping strategies which they can then impart to their children. Stress management and relaxation techniques will be discussed as means of alleviating anxiety, as will knowing when to seek professional help. The meeting will be held at:
Uwchlan Hills Elementary School Increasing Responsibility in Children
Twin Valley Elementary Center This presentation is designed to provide parents with useful tools for increasing responsible behavior and accountability in their children. Common parenting pitfalls will be examined, and strategies for creating change will be described. Emphasis will be placed on improving adherence to household chores and homework assignments. Twin Valley Elementary Center Social Skills Acquisition for Children with ADHD
Sponsored by CHADD of Chester County Increase your child's Social IQ! Jill will be speaking to parents of children with ADHD on this important and often overlooked topic. The presentation will include an overview of the social challenges that children with ADHD frequently encounter, tools children can use to build their interpersonal skills, and strategies parents and other caregivers can employ to reinforce and sustain improved social behavior.
